Recently, twelve students from Vilas School attended the E-Fair (Entrepreneurial Fair) in La Junta. Students had to come up with a business idea that they felt would benefit their community. In Ms. Gutierrez's Plan for Success and Entrepreneurship and GT classes, they studied the first steps to starting a business. The students researched business ideas, made a business logo, and displayed their business on a trifold board. At the fair, students were interviewed by judges about their businesses. Some of the questions the judges asked were: Why did you come up with this idea? Tell me about your business and why you feel it is essential in your area. If the students received a high enough score, they then went into the "Shark Tank Round," where they were interviewed again. We had twelve students attend, and we had four that received an award! They were: 3E Award $100: LJ Willis, Enthusiastic about her project $100: Anabelle Pettinger, Honorable Mention $100: Eliana Gutierrez, and 3rd Place Middle School $300: Draven Ferch. Not only did our students get to show their business ideas off, but they also heard from two great entrepreneurs about how they started their businesses. All of the students did a fantastic job, and like they said, "Everyone has an idea!"
